Under My Thumb is a collection of essays written by women about music they love that doesn’t love them back. Songs that are a guilty pleasure for feminists, collected from journalists, critics, musicians, and fans despite the problematic gender politics. No genre is left unexamined, from murder ballads to country, from hip hop to emo and artists as varied as David Bowie, Guns N’ Roses, 2Pac, and of course the quasi titular Rolling Stones are all explored. It's a celebration and a critique ( a critibration!) of music we love even or especially even when we shouldn't.
